A child mental status exam is the psychological equivalent of a pediatric physical exam.  The purpose is to evaluate your child's emotional, social, behavioral, and cognitive functioning at the at the time of  your first appointment.  Components include, but are not limited to, an assessment of  motor skills, emotional and behavioral regulation,  mood, cognition, thought processes, communication, play, relatedness, and risk.
